Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive ready to be in class and outdoors with all of your course equipment.

0830-1630 at the Nordegg Hostel

Day 2: Field Day

Travel/Location Details: Course will be based out of the Nordegg Hostel. Accommodation is NOT provided. Travel is done personally, but we recommend you carpool on the field day

***Be prepared to drive 300km round trip (on mountain roads in winter conditions) from Nordegg on the field day***

Course Summary: 

  • Weather and public avalanche bulletin discussion

  • Avaluator™

  • Field observations (Wind, Precipitation, Temperature)

  • Transceivers and companion rescue practice

  • Managing and reducing risk in avalanche terrain

  • Route selection, track setting and terrain recognition

  • Group rescue scenario – response and priorities

  • AST 1 certificate presentation



Prerequisites / Courses Required: none

Required items to bring: warm clothes, water and food. field day= snow shoes or touring skis, beacon, shovel and probe.

As per club guidelines, participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodations and transportation.
